Background
NorthPoint Development asked to CDW to review and enhance their Google Cloud Platform utilization.
Challenge
NorthPoint Development has been using Google Cloud Platform since 2019, and allowed organic growth and experimentation to continue for many years. Upon becoming dependent on production applications using Google native services, NorthPoint realized that a comprehensive review was needed by Google Cloud experts.
Solution
CDW conducted an in-depth review of the GCP organization, Identity and Access Management policies, folder and project hierarchy, and the resource utilization. Five working sessions were conducted with NorthPoint, focusing on education, developing a prioritized list of action for implementation, as well as design and deployment of a secure and scalable VPC using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
The result
NorthPoint improved in many areas:
- Implementation of organizational policies
- Strengthen IAM policies and practices
- 125 unorganized GCP projects to 29 well organized projects
- Deletion of unused and unneeded resources
- Implementation of well-informed naming standards
- Deployment of extensible hub & spoke network topology via Terraform
- Education of staff on best practices and usage
