Jim’s Formal Wear is a tuxedo and formal wear rental and sales company that works with retailers to provide the necessary formalwear and accessories for their customers. Retailers handle the direct customer interaction and JFW ships and manages the inventory through their nationwide network of service centers and distribution hubs.
Background
CDW's Engagement Team worked with Jim’s Formal Wear (JFW) to identify areas of concern regarding their journey to the cloud. A CDW Google Cloud Architect-Consultant dug into the roadblocks, as well as JFW's future drivers and goals for Google Cloud.
Challenge
JFW faced challenges with the number of applications on the IBM Power platform used for sales and financial reporting. They wanted this data in BigQuery for better reporting and analysis. Legacy applications still needed access to this data, while new applications required additional data managed in new tables and Firestore.
Solution
CDW identified that the location of the data was a major complicating factor in JFW’s migration path, leading to increased complexity and a roadmap extending over three years. CDW proposed a simpler solution for immediate implementation and provided a utility to transfer data from an the on-prem database to BigQuery, which set JFW on a path to migrate their IBM Power-based reporting.
The result
CDW provided a utility as part of this engagement, working to transfer ten key tables into BigQuery. This program runs as a Cloud Run job on a daily basis to keep the data fresh within the requirements of the business. This engagement has lead to JFW inquiring about support in additional areas from CDW's Managed Service team.
