Migrate shared files systems

with CDW and AWS

CDW's AWS Storage Migration

Seamlessly transition your file storage infrastructure from your traditional datacenter to AWS with minimal downtime and maximum efficiency. CDW's AWS Storage Migration (ASM) offering assists organizations wanting to migrate their shared file systems to the cloud. CDW's Architects and Engineers will work side by side with your organization to design a highly available and durable storage system that will serve the capacity and throughput your organization requires today and into the future.  With CDW, your file storage migration becomes a strategic advantage, enabling your business to focus on growth and innovation while we handle the heavy lifting.

Benefits

security-1
Security

AWS provides various security features, including encryption at rest and in transit, access controls, and compliance certifications, ensuring the security of your data stored in EFS or FSx.

cost-effectiveness
Cost
effectiveness

You pay for the storage and resources you use with both Elastic File System and FSx making them cost-effective options compared to maintaining and managing on-premises storage infrastructure.

native-cloud-service-integrtion
Native cloud
service integration

Both Elastic File System and FSx integrate seamlessly with other AWS services, such as EC2, Lambda, and EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service), enabling you to build scalable and reliable applications in the AWS ecosystem.

scalability
Scalability
& availability

Both Elastic File System and FSx offer scalability allowing you to easily scale storage capacity up or down based on demand without disrupting your applications.

performance-2
Performance

These services are designed to provide high-performance storage suitable for a wide range of workloads. FSx, for example, offers high throughput and low latency for  file systems.

simplified-management
Simplified
management

Both EFS and FSx offer simplified management interfaces and APIs, allowing you to easily create, configure, and manage file systems and storage resources.

high-availability
High
availability

Elastic File System and FSx are designed for high availability with data replicated across multiple availability zones (AZs) within a region, ensuring durability and fault tolerance.

Our dedicated team ensures your storage needs are met today and scalable for tomorrow.

How it gets done

The discovery and analysis gathers necessary details about the customer’s current shared file systems, client and workload requirements, and shared infrastructure dependencies. Data is collected from the customer’s environment along with interviews to gather the necessary characteristics to plan and build the cloud-shared file system.

Activities:

  • Discovery and Interviews to gather:
    • Protocols (NFS/SMB/Mixed)
    • Capacity and Throughput
    • Data reduction
    • Application/Access
    • Characteristics Availability/Durability Requirements
    • Backup/Recovery Requirements
    • Usage Characteristics
    • Authorization Requirements
  • TCO Analysis
  • Business Validation

The Design and Deploy workstream builds the destination-shared file systems based on data gathered during discovery and analysis. If the storage migration is part of a larger workload migration, storage dependencies are also added to workload wave planning. Additionally, synchronization agents are deployed and tested using a pilot or test migration.

Activities

  • Discovery and Design
  • Shared File System(s) Deployment
  • Agent Deployment
  • Wave Planning
  • Test / Pilot Migration

The Migration workstream begins the process of replicating and monitoring data to the new shared file system(s). The storage and workloads are cutover to AWS and then validated for performance, durability, and security characteristics:

Activities

  • Replicate and Monitor
  • Cutover
  • Remediation and Validation
  • As-built Documentation
